Endless “Pastabilities”@ Pastaroma

Pasta is a wonderful and heart filling dish coming a close second to my favorite Italian dish Pizza.

This love for Pasta started after having my fill of them for days on an end in Rome. Now we all know there is no one to match the Italians when it comes to Pasta nevertheless I have always been on the lookout for a good Pasta restaurant in Bangalore.

We are aware that pasta is made from a simple and basic pasta dough and the shape it takes after this makes all the difference to how it’s served. Who would have thought that with a twist, roll and tuck, followed by boiling or baking that a completely different kind of dish will emerge!

The Italians still make their pasta from scratch every single day but we all know many restaurants nowadays prefer to go for the commercially produced machine cut pasta which are commonly sold in supermarkets.

So what makes me talk about Pastaroma here? They believe in providing freshly prepared pasta made by their chef’s every single day. This is by no means an easy feat and it goes to show the love they have for what they serve.

Here at Pastaroma they do not offer the usual traditional dishes instead want you ‘their customer’ to decide your pasta meal from choosing the pasta type, sauce and garnish.

Pastaroma has a varied but wonderful range of pasta’s to choose from so lets delve a little deeper into what type of Pasta they offer and what they are –

CLASSIC / CLASSICO PASTA :

FUSILLI – SPAGHETTI

Fusilli – Also named corkscrew pasta which are thick, long spirals that taste great with meat sauces.

Spaghetti – Very well known and commonly found pasta in restaurants. They look like long strands very similar to noodles. The most common dish using this pasta is Spaghetti Carbonara with meatballs and red sauce.

MACCHERONI – MACARONI

Maccheroni – Very narrow tube like pasta. This also similar to the more commonly known Macaroni where these tubes are cut into smaller pieces.

TAGLIATELLE – RIGATONI

Tagliatelle – Long and flat pasta commonly mixed with Bolognese sauce.

Rigatoni – Thick tube-shaped pasta used mainly in baked dishes

NEW / NEUVO PASTA  :

CONCHIGLIE – RADIATORE

Conchiglie – The pasta is made into shape of Sea shells hence called “Conch”iglie.

Radiatore – Pasta in the shape of squares which look like radiators and blends well with thicker sauces.

Chilli Fettuccine – Fettuccine means “little ribbons” and these flat, thick noodles shaped made to look like ribbons.

STUFFED/ RIPIENO PASTA :

RAVIOLI – Pastaroma offers two types of ravioli – Fiorentine Ravioli and Torino Ravioli.

ravioliNext come the Pasta sauces and we all know that pasta sauces vary in taste, color and texture. Also something I learned the hard way was when choosing which type of pasta and sauce to serve together, there is a general rule regarding compatibility.

  • Pesto sauce are ideal for long and thin strands of pasta.
  • Tomato sauce combines well with thicker pastas as the thicker sauces have the better ability to cling onto the holes and openings of short, tubular, twisted pastas.

In addition to the above choices, there is the option of adding extras such as roast veggies, sundried tomatoes, paneer, chicken, cheese, sauces and garnishes.

They also offer baked pasta dishes such as Mac and Cheese and Lasagne.

Additional items on their menu include Soups, Snacks, Salads, Panini and Desserts.

MY EXPERIENCE :

Since I intended to have a takeaway, I decided to order for my family also and hence went a bit overboard with the order!

MAC AND CHEESE – VEG – Very rich and creamy and though a bit heavy on the stomach they have got it right.

SPAGHETTI MEATBALLS  – The spaghetti was a little too thick for my liking and I am not too sure if this is how it should be. The sauce tasted very good but I would suggest them to provide a small container with extra sauce as it was a bit dry towards the end.

FUSILLI BOLOGNESE – CHICKEN – The fusilli was the best pasta and my kids walloped it in a jiffy! The sauce was excellent and in combination with the minced chicken did wonders.

DESSERTS:

Their pastry chef comes highly recommended hence decided to order a few interesting looking ones from their display.

My order consisted of Lava Cake, Chocolate Mousse, Tiramisu  and Mango Cheesecake.

I personally like any Chocolate desserts but the Tiramisu was excellent and Mango Cheesecake tasted very different (in a nice way) from the usual cheesecakes.

They also specialize in Cakes and offer to deliver –  0.5 ,1 and 2 kg options of the following cakes – Opera, 3 Choco ganache, Fraisier, Chocolate mousse, Tiramisu and Tart.

Currently they have only one outlet in RMZ Infinity on Old Madras Road with plans of expansion in the coming months.
