Fruit Mixing Celebrations – Christmas 2017 | Aloft Cessna Business Park | Bangalore
With Christmas closing in on us, the tradition of fruit mixing is upon us and I was glad to be part of the annual celebration at Aloft Cessna Business Park.
Though the trend in hotels in Bangalore had started a few years back, there is an interesting history behind it. Fruit mixing dates back to 17th century when the abundance of fruits during the harvest season started the tradition of Plum cakes loaded with fruits and alcohol. What started as a family event became a looked forward event with larger groups with people from all cultures and religions partaking in this joyous celebration. Dry fruits such as cashews, almonds, raisins, figs, apricots, cherries, plums etc are mixed with different alcohols such as rum, brandy, whiskey etc.
The celebrations at Aloft CBP were attended by bloggers, in house guests, staff and some interested office goers from the business park. The area for the scheduled fruit mixing was decorated with all things Christmas along with aprons, Santa hats. The main attraction was a table holding a large rectangular box filled with varieties of dry fruits innovatively made out in the form of Santa Claus and their brand Aloft.
Beside this table, there were two very large round vessels filled with loads of dry fruits ready to be mixed. The alcohol for the fruit mixing was right beside with options ranging from rum, brandy, whisky and in house wine.
Once we donned our aprons, Santa caps and gloves we begun with pouring the alcohol into the dry fruits mixture followed by the actual fruit mixing with our bare (gloved) hands. Though the mixing in itself was loads of fun with everyone behaving like kids, the aroma around the table in itself was quite intoxicating making it a spirited gathering.
The fruit mixing event was followed by light snack food, sangria and mocktails. The food prepared kept with the mood and festivities with Chocolate Fudge Xmas Tree, Red Berry Macaroon Profiteroles, White Chocolate mousse cups, Cupcakes and even some mouth melting savoury items such as the Mini Idlis stack.
A special mention to Aloft CBP family for an enjoyable and memorable get together and of course for including me in celebrating the pre-Christmas festivities!
