Microbrewery | Potpourri Of Brews | Brewklyn | Bangalore
Over the years, Bangalore has been known to be one of the best party hubs in the country. Of recent, Bangalore has seen a change in the way the beverage industry specifically the beer enthusiasts have ensured the growth of the craft brews here. The IT boom is alive and still growing and the never ending population with varied tastes from across India who come here on work has helped in the emergence of many such Microbreweries in Bangalore.
We have heard the word Microbrewery mentioned numerable times but there is so much to know in this business from the obvious meaning i.e. it is a place which produces small quantities of beer where is the emphasis is on flavour and quality. These smaller establishments have their own brewing containers / vessels mostly in the same premises where the patrons are served the beers. Another important fact is that they are independently owned thereby giving the proprietors freedom to experiment and adapt to customers tastes which is not possible for the regular beers available from the market. Microbreweries provide brews which are specifically created keeping the focus on quality and customer tastes.
Till date, the focus of Microbreweries has been in the heart of Bangalore city. Brewklyn is the first Microbrewery which has opened its doors in 2016 in Bangalore East strategically located in Kalyan Nagar which is teeming with youngsters and office goers alike. Having such a place in close proximity to many residential areas (Banaswadi, Hennur, Kammanahalli) is perfect to unwind after a long day at work when the last thing you want to do is to travel to a far away watering hole.
They are located on the 4th floor of the same building as Barbecue Nation. The usual dilemma in this location of car parking is sorted as they have some space in the basement as well a valet service. The ambience and decor is a bit on the grunge side with graffiti visible at strategic areas. The lighting helps to provide a laid back ambience perfect for a place like this especially over the longer tables is nice touch.
A pool table is located in front of the bar and a foosball table on the other side of the bar. They also have live sports screening of football and cricket matches.
I was glad to notice they had outdoor seating which is excellent for enjoying the lovely Bangalore evening weather. There is no constraint for space here as this microbrewery can easily accommodate a small group as well as a large gathering making it a perfect spot to chill.
This brewery provides a unique selection of 5 beers on tap – Ale Capone (American Pale Ale), Woody Ale’n (British Pale Ale), Brewklyn Finest (Belgian Wit Beer), Iron Mike (Dark Wheat), Biggie (Traditional German Lager) and Mango Beer (seasonal). From the pale ales to stouts to their seasonal offerings all their brews are carefully prepared keeping the tastes of the Indian community in mind thereby guaranteed to suit their tastes.
If you are a 1st timer here and not so sure the beer to choose, ask your attendant for a sample tray of their beers which comes at a small charge. After a taste of their offerings, I started my meal with their Belgian Wit which I found suits my taste followed by their stout which is the best I have tasted in a while.
Moving on to their food, they serve a wide range of cuisine from Continental, Thai, American, Italian and Indian dishes. I have noticed most microbreweries focus mostly on beers with the food taking a backseat. I was hoping this was not the case when I visited Brewklyn and I was not disappointed in the least. They have wide number of options for vegetarians and non vegetarians.
The vegetarian starters I tried that day were Jalapeno Cheese Balls, Tawa Paneer, Pita & Spinach Corn bites and Vegetable Kurkure. All the starters were different in their own way with the cheese balls and kurkure being my pick.
The non vegetarian starters were more of my area of expertise and liking – Bonnet Chicken, Butter Garlic Prawns, Coastal chicken Drumsticks and Tawa Lamb. My ears perk up every time someone says butter garlic prawns and this time was no different with their dish being absolutely delicious and perfect with my Belgian Wit.
No beer is complete with some pizza and I loved their Bacon and Jalapeno Pizza which I couldnt get enough of! They do have mouth watering veggie options such as the Italiano Pizza filled with peppers and oozing with cheese.
Though I have almost never bothered trying a main course in a Microbrewery, I am glad to got to taste a few dishes here thanks to my friends insistence. Their mixed Seafood Biryani was a surprise as I really did not expect to like the combination with a beer but is actually is a great combination. Their Coastal Chicken Curry with steamed rice is also a good option for those rice lovers.
The vegetarians in my group were a happy bunch thanks to their order of Thai Veg Green Curry with steamed rice and Veg Cannelloni (mushroom). The flavours imparted from the Thai green curry was spot on and definitely a must try here.
Never one to say no to trying out desserts, I got to try their Apple Pie and Cheese Cake. I am not much of a cheese cake person but one bite of their cheese cake and I knew they had something special going here.
The staff here are very patient and courteous which is especially important when everyone has their own whims and orders to be satisfied.
If you are a beer enthusiast, this place is must-go to try their freshly brewed beer. If you are food lover, then again definitely a place to try their varied cuisine. Though I visited on a weekend, I have witnessed the buzz and the crowd piling into this place be it a Saturday or a weekday evening.
Overall, a well-rounded place and fantastic place to spend time with friends or colleagues with some exceptional beers and grub.
