Simple Ways To De-Stress During A Workday

Everyone who needs to get to a 9 to 5 job hates a Monday morning and the thought of getting to work itself is quite stressful. In addition to the fact, there is always some work pending when you get there which adds to the already dreadful feeling brewing inside you.

While it is normal to feel stressed and overworked during a workday it not only reduces your productivity at your workplace but is also quite harmful to your physical and mental well being. Different people have different routines and tips that help in de-stressing during workdays. However, there are some tips that are general and effective for most people.

Below are some of the general tips that can help you de-stress during a workday.

Clear your bulk of work first

This is one of the techniques that works best for many people. Once you start clearing up the pending work in the first hours of the work day, that in itself will give you a sense of accomplishment and the energy to take the day forward.

Write down a list of work to be done

During work, you may be feeling anxious about other personal or work related issues. Writing these down on a piece of paper helps you to relieve yourself of these worries. It also enables you to come up with solutions faster.

Bring your favourite snacks to work

Instead of picking just any snack and munching away at work, you can prepare a good and healthy snack at home and carry it to work. Eating your favourite snacks helps to boost your energy and keep you in a good mood. Take your snack away from your computer and go sit someplace peaceful and enjoy your snack time.

Take time off and just breathe

It can be helpful to take your mind of work for a few minutes and just take a few deep breaths. Concentrate only on your breathing and it will work wonders in helping you relax and concentrate. Taking a few deep breaths can help reduce tension and relieve stress thanks to an extra boost of oxygen.

Do up your work space

When the desk and workplace is tidy, then the chances of doing more work is possible. You can also redecorate your workstation and use colors that boost your mood.

Take five to do something different

You can make a sketch, call up a friend, window shop online and even catch up on social media. This can take around 5-10 minutes to refresh and recharge in order to continue with work.

Talk to a friend

You can either connect with a friend from work or a friend who is not from work. Whichever the case, ensure that you do not talk about work related issues in order to refresh your brain.

Off-screen Time

Make sure to take frequent breaks during your day of computer use. In addition to helping you gather your thoughts, it also helps your eyesight. You can use that time off the screen to write down all the ideas you have in mind.

Go for a short walk

Walk around the office during tea and lunch breaks to stretch and get some fresh air. This is important because it helps you to clear your head to ensure you are rejuvenated when you come back to work after the break.

Tune into some music

Another important and very effective tip is to listen to your favourite mood-boosting music. This works wonders to lift your spirits and boost your mental activity. Depending on your favourite music, you can turn it up or slip on your headphones and enjoy.

Everyone has their own way of coping with the stresses of a workday and if you are one of those lucky few who love what they do then do share these tips with your friends who may need them. The above mentioned tips are from my personal experience and I do hope it would help you cope and de-stress during the course of your workday.

I so agree with all the points that you have mentioned here. Taking a long drive without any specific destination is another way that I personally indulge in.

Fab post. Stress of finishing work within time always bogs one down. Writing a list and ticking it off first few hours destresses you.

I take a leave from social media every weekend that gives me so much off screen time and time to pamper myself. It makes such a difference and prepares me for the coming week.

These are some really helpful tips for working people. I remember during my corporate life, it would often get too stressful and our team’s best de-stressing activity was to do some fun during our break time. For 15 mins, we would just forget everything about work, office, clients, and targets, instead would laugh and eat and just have fun. This would energize us for the rest of the day.

I’ve never really thought of bringing a favourite snack to office. Now that will for sure cheer me up after a 3 hour client meeting which wasn’t really necessary

Destressing oneself is such a tempting idea. basially in this age of MNCs and booming IT sectors. I liked the idea of connecting to people online and talk to them abt sonething that is nt directly connected to my work. Thank u.

In my opinion, the best way how to get rid of the stress is by working out. Even when you’re really busy you need to find some time to do some exercises, for at least 5-10 minutes every hour or two. It will reduce stress, give you some energy. And if you have pain, you’ll get rid of it. It’s even more important if you have a sitting job
