Tableware For A Picture Perfect Meal | Kika Tableware
There is always an appeal when the food you relish is served in an equally appealing dish. In this fast paced life, we take time to observe these small but visually appealing things when we dine at a restaurant but do not put any effort in creating such an experience for ourselves or our guests at our home.
I have always felt it is important to showcase my food in good tableware and always believed that my dining area in an integral part of this experience. Being from a large as well as business family, my home is always filled guests and hence I have always felt the need to have appropriate tableware for every occasion and even the simple get togethers. That said, our options are limited to either high-end tableware like Noritake or the more affordable Corelle. Though I do the occasional buys from these brands nothing has stood out and made me purchase at first glance.
Setting a table requires appropriate tableware and is an integral part of the meal. There are a variety of tableware pieces available in the market and we often get confused while picking and setting the right pieces thereby making it quite a challenge to keep it tasteful. I always keep in mind that one eats with their eyes first and the tableware I lay needs to coordinate and balance with the colours of the dishes too.
Keeping this in mind, I am always on the lookout to add to my collection and that is when I came across an Indian Tableware brand called Kika. I was lucky to be a part of a small pop up at UB City and that was my first glimpse of the collection from Kika Tableware. KIKA Tableware offers a variety of products in the tableware range which include dinner plates, quarter plates, serving platters, serving bowls, mugs and tea sets. These products are made from premium quality bone china, porcelain, stoneware and are finished in 24k gold or platinum detailing.
KIKA Tableware was created by Janaki Kirloskar in 2016 when she realised a void in tableware available in the market where it was too expensive or mundane. The purpose of setting up Kika was to offer luxurious and beautifully designed tableware at more affordable prices. The unique name KI-KA was an amalgamation of the two most significant forces in her life – her daughters, Devaki and Mihika and was coined by her husband, Rahul. An engineer by profession, Janaki hails from 130 year old business family, Kirloskar and after working in her family business for 12 years she decided to embark on her own and thus begin her own entrepreneurial venture – Kika Tableware.
Every collection is designed with a purpose and a theme. These collections draws inspiration from Janaki’s travel experiences. She collaborates with talented graphic designers from across the globe through whom her ideas and designs are showcased through her tableware collections. They take inspiration from the world – travels, environment, the experiences of the graphic designer and all of this merges into creating that beautiful design story which then becomes a Tableware Collection. The manufacturing is done in India and all their products are made out of bone china. Her tableware has a personal touch in the form of her name which is intricately embedded within the design.
I also had the chance to be a part of her Tableware workshop at the pop up event where she showcased her collection as well as took us through the right way to set a table. She believes your space talks about you and while everyone has their own creativity there are certain essential rules to be followed when setting the table. From simple things such as managing space, accessorise with centrepieces, placement of cutlery to dish arrangements for a buffet the session was quite entertaining and enlightening.
Kika is currently in their second year and the focus is to increase their market presence all over India through pop up exhibitions and showcases. They also have plans to branch out in South East Asia. They have recently launched their Spring – Summer collections and these would be available soon on their e-commerce platform soon.
Kika Tableware is unique and its one of a kind collection is sure to add elegance and appeal to every home.

I really like the gold and blue combination. Abstract prints are beautiful. Usually I’m a minimalist and go for plain crockery with modern design but i don’t mind minimal prints too.
